Benefits of Exercise
Benefits of Exercise
It is well documented that for every minute that you exercise, you add one minute to your life. This enables you, at 85 years of age, to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $5,000 per month.
My Grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. Now she is 97 years old and we don’t know where she is.
I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven’t lost a pound! – Apparently you have to show up.
I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what I’m doing.
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.
Tip: If you are going to try cross0country skiing, start with a small country.
But seriously, folks: Exercise really is good for you.
Remember to keep your body moving. It keeps your blood moving and your heart pumping… and this is a good thing.
If your job or your health requires a lot of sitting down, reach up your arms and stretch every once in awhile. Circle your arms in the air and take two or three deep breathes and let them out slowly. Breathing is a good thing too.
Try moving your feet and legs every few minutes. Really getting up and walking around is best, if at all possible. But if your situation does not allow this, try moving your feet up and down in pretend walking motion, or make little running-in-place movements with your feet.
If you spend a lot of time traveling in a constrained mode of transportation such as car or plane, you can probably do most of these little leg and arm movements within the bounderies of your seating location. And, consider the fact that keeping your legs moving around every so often can help prevent blood clots in the legs, which could prove fatal.
So, yes folks… Exercise really is beneficial. We hope that you will find a few smiles in this piece, but that you will keep moving, and enjoy the type of exercise that you are able to do.
Wishing you good health and happiness.
