May you have hope and joy…

Mothers Day

The Role of “Mother” is an awesome, and sometimes perilous journey. The highs and lows; from joyful elation to tears of frustration and disappointment are a sure thing.

Most of us begin this journey fully unprepared for even the basics, let alone the full-meal-deal. It is a learn-as-you-go role, and it is helpful to keep an open mind and know that, at any age, we never know-it all. There are still things to learn, and I am still learning.

Some of us become mothers later in life. Some at an early age. But one thing is always the case, when we become mothers for the first time, it is sure to change our lives.

Each time we become a mother, there are changes. But I think the very first time is the most challenge. Oh, how I wished that children came with an instruction mannual. I really needed one, and I admit to making thousands of mistakes.

My first children were not born to me, but I did play the role of mother in their lives. Then, some years later children were born to me. More children came into our lives through foster care and through youth and children ministries in various communities. So, I have been, and continue to be “mom”, “maude” and “mommy sue-sue” to many children of all ages. I love each one with a total “mothers heart” that breaks when they have hard times and disappointment, and leaps with joy for their happy times and accomplishments. They will probably never know how deep my mothers love for them is, and how many sleepless nights were filled with prayers for them.

So, again, Happy Mothers Day! Have a special time today. If your children are near, I hope you will have some time with them. If they are far away, I hope they will call you and let you know that you are loved and appreciated.
